Introduction To Major Scales – Guitar Lesson

Scales are the series of notes which are arranged in an ascending or descending manner.

It is the foundation from which all other scales are formed. A major scale begins with the starting note of that scale and ends with the same. For example, a C major scale start with a C note and ends with a C note and so on for other major scales. The notes on a major scale are numbered from 1 to 8 which signifies the interval.

Major Scale Of All The Key Notes

C => C – D – E – F – G – A – B – C
D => D – E – F# – G – A – B – C# – D
E => E – F# – G# – A – B – C# – D# – E
F => F – G – A – Bb – C – D – E – F
G => G – A – B – C – D – E – F# – G
A => A – B – C# – D – E – F# – G# – A
B => B – C# – D# – E – F# – G# – A# – B
C# => C# – D# – E# (=F) – F# – G# – A# – B# (=C) – C#

Now its not possible to memorize all the above given scales. There is an easy way to do this, the notes change after every whole step – whole step – half step – whole step – whole step – whole step – half step or simply put w – w – h – w – w – w – h.

Example : C Major

The 12 notes including the 8 notes of  C major scale are :

----w--------w -----h----- w ----- w ------ w ---- h--

C - C# - D - D# - E - F - F# - G - G# - A - A# - B - C
