According to Swift the song came to be because of her feelings for Drew Hardwick, a classmate of hers. He was not aware that Swift was into him and continually spoke about his girlfriend to her. Fast forward a couple of years, Hardwick came to Swift’s house, but she rejected him.
The song is played primarily on acoustic guitar and according to some critiques has a country music taste to it. Critics were overall positive about the song and complimented Swift for her vocal delivery and songwriting style.
